On July 4, 1929, in the small community of Linden, Texas, Esta M. Green began a remarkable journey that would span nearly a century. Throughout her life, she became known as a woman of resilience, quiet determination, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Born to Mary Fisher Givens and Willard Givens, Esta was raised with values that shaped the way she lived each day—with integrity, perseverance, and compassion. Those qualities remained evident throughout her life and became part of the legacy she leaves behind.
She dedicated many years of faithful service to the Red River Army Depot, where her strong work ethic and dependability earned the respect of those who worked alongside her. Following her retirement, the impact of her years of service continued to be remembered by family and friends who admired her commitment and sense of responsibility.
Faith was an important part of Esta’s life. She worshiped faithfully at Salem Church for many years, where she found spiritual strength, fellowship, and encouragement. As her health declined, she was no longer able to attend regularly, but the faith she carried in her heart remained a guiding light throughout her life.
While Esta experienced the deep sorrow of losing several of her children, she continued to demonstrate remarkable courage. She was preceded in death by her beloved children: Mary Warren, Idelle Hoskins, Glen Green, James Green, and Cedric Green. Though those losses were immeasurable, her love for her family never wavered.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving family, including her surviving children: Betty Bowens, Helen Green, Shirley Green, Thomas Green, Dayte Shavers; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended relatives, and dear friends who will continue to honor her legacy.
The measure of a life is found not only in the years lived, but in the character displayed and the lives touched along the way. Esta’s life reflected perseverance through hardship, dedication to family, commitment to honest work, and trust in God. Her memory will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her.
Today, we celebrate a life that was well lived, a woman whose journey has left an enduring mark on generations to come. Though she is no longer with us in body, her influence, her example, and the love she shared will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
“Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will never be forgotten.”
