Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above Rubies. ~ Proverbs 31:10
Nina Marie Smith Frazier was a faithful wife, caring mother, devoted daughter, loving sister, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. She passed away on September 7, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, service, and treasured memories.
Nina was born on April 21, 1948, in Cason, Texas, to J. S. and Mary Jane Smith. The oldest daughter in her family, Nina grew into a woman known for her warm smile, generous spirit, and deep love for those around her. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and had a special gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. Her kindness and generosity touched countless lives.
Nina graduated from Rhodes High School in Daingerfield, Texas, and later attended the University of North Texas in Denton. While attending college, she met and married Johnny Simpson. During their marriage, they welcomed and raised three daughters: Selandra, Monica, and Jolyeane.
Nina built a successful career with Southwestern Bell and later AT&T, where she worked for many years before retiring.
Later in life, Nina was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Johnnie W. Frazier. The two were united in marriage on December 31, 1982, and shared 44 years of marriage until her passing. Their life together was filled with companionship, love, family, and many cherished memories.
Above all, Nina loved her family deeply. She took great pride in her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and treasured the time she spent with them. Her family knew her as a steady source of love, encouragement, wisdom, and support.
Nina was also a woman of strong faith. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ from childhood and later returned to her childhood congregation, Mt. Mitchell Church of Christ. She believed deeply in the Word of God and dearly loved her sisters and brothers in Christ. Her church family loved her in return—and many will especially remember her famous green beans, prepared and shared with love.
Nina’s life reflected compassion, generosity, faithfulness, and devotion to family. Though her absence will be deeply felt, the love she gave, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew her.
A beautiful soul, gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
Nina was preceded in death by her father, J. S. Smith; her sister, Peggy Jean Smith; and her nephew, Reginald Cole Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Johnnie W. Frazier of Cason, Texas; her mother, Mary Jane Smith of Cason, Texas; her brother, William C. “Billie” Smith; her sister, Secelia (Bobby) Hodges of Cason, Texas; her daughters, Selandra (Davis) Laabs of Austin, Texas, Monica Simpson of Red Oak, Texas, and Jolyeane (Frederick) Kimble of Midlothian, Texas; her adopted daughter, Megan Spearman of Kansas City; and her stepdaughter, Denise (Neal) Roney of Cason, Texas.
She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Alexandria Simpson, Marissa Kimble, Chaundra Hale, Alexia (Arin) Wagoner, Justin Boyd, Jessica Boyd, and Michael Boyd; her great-grandchildren, Sophia Simpson, Lauren Boyd, and Preston Boyd; aunt, Mary Ann Withmore of Dallas, Texas; and a host of cousins, extended family members, classmates, church family, and dear friends.
Nina’s memory will forever remain a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Matthew 5:4 ~ “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

I just heard of the passing of our Ms. Nina and was saddened. At the same time while speaking of our memories of her from our Southwestern Bell & AT&T days “back in the day” Marlene Wilcox and I shared smiles, laughter, and joy warmed our hearts. That is the effect Nina had/has on many of us in Wichita, Kansas. She was such a joy, faithful, helpful, and a welcoming spirit. Nina I can still hear your laugh. Prayers and blessings to her entire family. Fairwell Nina until we meet again! Gwen Blackman-Chaney
