Graveside services for Mrs. Ruby Pearl Ayers, age 96, of Linden, Texas, will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2024 at Caves Springs Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Brown officiating, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
Ruby “Tiney” Ayers passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 24, 1927 to Jessie Alan and Flossie Sessums. She graduated from Pine Tree High School in 1944 and East Texas Baptist College in Marshall in 1948. She worked for many years at Atlantic Refining in Dallas with her sister from 1948-1952, she then married Donald “Jack” Ayers, the love of her life in 1952, and they had two children: Michael and Kitsy. After marrying Jack, she began working for years at General Dynamics, and Lone Star Federal Credit Union in Lone Star, before beginning her teaching career in 1961.
Mrs. Ayers then finished her education at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas, earning her master’s degree in education, and found her calling in teaching. During her 31 years of teaching, Mrs. Ayers taught at Avinger High School for six years, and Hughes Springs High School for 25 years. She taught World, American, and Texas History. She also taught Typing I and II. She put her heart and soul into teaching, and so dearly loved her students. She was the Student Council Sponsor for many years, and was involved in numerous Women’s Clubs, as well as First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs. In 1992, she and her husband of 64 years retired to their beloved farm, where they enjoyed their grandchildren they adored, and continued to raise cattle for many years.
Mrs. Ayers was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Donald “Jack” Ayers; her son, Michael Ayers; her three sisters: Fern Sewell, Maxine Boone, and Mary Jo Woodard.
She is survived by her daughter, Kitsy Caperton (David); grandson, Kyle Caperton (Elizabeth); granddaughter, Kelli Sajnani (Sunny); Five great-grandchildren, that she dearly loved: Caleb Caperton, Abigail Caperton, Stephen Caperton, Parker Sajnani, and Ruby Sajnani.
The family wishes to acknowledge and give special thanks to Linda Welch Bobo, RN (friend of the family) and her team of nurses, Lashaun, Kayla, and Tachrissa, as well as Heritage Hospice for their exceptional love and care shown to Mrs. Ayers in her final days.

I’m sorry to hear of the passing of wonderful Mrs. Ayers, who taught me civics a few years back. I remember her being very kind, and soft-spoken with high school seniors. Family, you have my deepest sympathy!
