Ruia Flarity

A Celebration of Life honoring Mrs. Ruia Lucinda Flarity, 97, of Linden, Texas, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Shiloh Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.  There will be a time of visitation with family and friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2026, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ruia Lucinda Flarity was born on August 6, 1928, in Linden, Texas, to Thomas Andrew McGuffin Leroy and Carrie Ione Graham Leroy. She passed away on July 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Ruia was a faithful member of Shiloh Methodist Church. Affectionately known as the “Hug Lady” of Linden, she never met a stranger and had a special gift for making everyone she encountered feel loved and welcome. Her warm embraces, kind heart, and caring spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially around the game table. Ruia loved playing Skip-Bo, 42, Uno, Go Fish, and Chinese Checkers, creating countless memories filled with laughter and friendly competition.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar Flarity; her daughter, Joy Fisk; her brothers, David Leroy and Tommy Leroy; and her sisters, Doris Moore and Eva Quinn.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Marty Simonds and her husband, Rick, and Susan Vith; her son, Carl Flarity and his wife, Sherry; her grandchildren, Chad Simonds, Brock Simonds, Dale Vith, Jessica Dunkeson, Tonya Van Houtan, Nathan Van Houtan, Amber Hoffman, and Ryan Flarity; 20  great-grandchildren; her brothers, Bobby Leroy and Don Leroy; her sister, Sue McWhorter; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

Ruia’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
