Funeral services for Ms. Vernell Jeffery, 87, of Ore City, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at St. Paul Baptist Church in Ore City.  Burial will follow at New Mountain Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City. There will be a time of viewing from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City.

Vernell Jeffery, 87, of Ore City, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on August 1, 2026.

Vernell was a kind and caring woman who enjoyed working with her hands. Throughout her working years, she held several positions, including retail filler, nurse’s aide, medication aide, and custodian, the position from which she retired. She loved to clean, iron, and knit. One of her favorite pastimes was working in her circle-word puzzle books. Above all, Vernell truly cherished her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Mary Jones; her first husband, Glen Waddleton; her second husband, Johnny Jeffery; four sisters, Ella Mae, L.D., Gladys, and Bobbie; and three brothers, I.V., Joe Lewis, and Robert L.

Vernell leaves to cherish her memory two children, Rios (Kathy) Waddleton and V. Lashun Haley; six stepchildren; four grandchildren, Amber Flowers, Ashley (Devanian) Wheeler, Byron (Jilliam) Wheeler, and Brenda Wheeler; four great-grandchildren, Zayda, Jaylynn, Jordan, and Brynlee; three sisters, Katie Jones, Maye Jones, and Mary (Tommy) Jones; one brother, John (Betty) Jones; bonus grandson, Justin Flowers; special cousin, Dorothy J. Webster; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
