Funeral services for Ms. Phyllis Smith Bryant, 62, of Cason, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Oak Grove Church of Christ. Burial to follow at Shady Grove Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Ms. Bryant will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
God called Sister Phyllis Ann Smith-Bryant from this side of life on July 10, 2023.
Phyllis Ann Smith-Bryant was born September 22, 1960, in Morris County, Texas to the parentage of Chestene Reece and Charles “CB” Smith. She started serving the Lord at a young at Mt. Mitchell Church of Christ, where she was baptized. She graduated from Daingerfield High School in 1978. During her working years, she was a Certified Nurse Assistant and industrial worker, and later retired. She then served her community as a Democratic Judge for Morris County for many years. She was a Child Advocate, and fostered many children in her home. She also helped organize a girl empowerment group in Daingerfield TX, called Girls with Purpose.
She is proceeded in death by both of her parents, Chestene Reece and Charles “CB” Smith; brothers, Pastor Willie Earl Searcy and Gary Charles Smith; sister, Zsa Zsa Smith; nephew, Chad Smith; and great-nephews, Roman Emery and Ke’Aron Onell Mitchell.
She is survived by her oldest daughter, Shoundala “Sam” Smith and Baby Girl Crystal Burns both of Daingerfield Texas; two sisters, Tondala Kay Smith –Washington (Ron) of Dallas Texas, and Etoil Watson of Daingerfield, Texas; six grandchildren, Chestin, Mikal (Makahila), Chad, Chance, ZaKylon, and Markell; three great-granddaughters, Milah, Paris, Ma’Kylah; nephews, Todd Smith (Resa), Cedric Mitchell (Jessica), and Alex Watson; one niece, Chonnitta Smith. In addition, a host of great-nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved dearly. Lastly, her special pet dog “Bubba”.
