Mary Edith Maple Thompson Pond went home to be with our Lord, on August 28, 2023. She passed away at the home of her daughter Susan and son-in-law Dennis Ferraro of Diana, Texas.
Mary was born on November 20,1929 to Bonard and Edna (Clark) Maple of Gilman City, MO. She grew up on a farm north of Gilman City, MO and graduated from Gilman City High School in 1947. She later married fellow Gilman City High school graduate, Allen Thompson, and moved to Southern California in the early 1950’s.
Mary met many lifelong friends while working real estate in Poway. She liked to dance, hike, play tennis and golf. She enjoyed going to the beach at La Jolla Cove and attending the golf tournaments at Torrey Pines to watch her favorite player, Tiger Woods. She loved star gazing and watching for satellites on her patio with her grandchildren. When she obtained her private pilot’s license her favorite past time became flying her Cessna airplane with her friends and first husband Allen Thompson. Later in life she told many stories about how much fun she had when she was flying!
She is survived by children Susan, Sherry and Tim; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her sister, Bonnie; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her late husbands, Milton Pond and Allen Thompson; her two sisters, Nadine and Lenora; and her two brothers, John and Sherman.
She was a caring mother and grandmother and will be missed by many.
Her ashes will be interred with her late husband Milton Pond at Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City.
