Jerry Lynn Hatten, known by many as “Gold Finger”,  was born June 19, 1935 in Avinger, Texas to Mr. Love and Tempie Lee Mims Hatten.  He passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023.  Mr. Hatten attended Duncan Elementary School and was a graduate of Traylor High School. He was retired from T&N Railroad and Delta Fabrication.  Mr. Hatten served on the Avinger ISD School Board, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.   He loved sports, especially the Avinger Indians.  Mr. Hatten never met a stranger. He was a “people person” and a devoted family man, He loved his family and the times they shared together. One of his favorite songs was “Family Reunion”.  He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Avinger, where he served as a Deacon.

Mr. Hatten was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Lynn Hatten; brother, Johnny Hatten; sisters:  Bernice Jones, Mary Lois Neal, Ester Marie Morrow; grandsons: Montrell Hatten, and Shelton Hicks; great-grandson, Jaylen Hatten.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tommie Lee Hatten; children: Jerry Wayne Hatten and wife Odie, Virginia Linwood and husband Jimmy, Billy Hatten and wife Katie, Jeanette Hatten Montgomery and husband Melvin, Janette Linwood, Anthony Hatten and wife Susie, Dennis Hatten; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Jerry Lynn Hatten will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Avinger.  Burial will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.  There will be at time of visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at the funeral home.

I remember his cheer at the basketball games of “Who Dat, Who Dat, Who Dat said they gonna beat those Indians, now Who Dat, Who Dat! He will be greatly missed!
