Ray Richardson

June 13, 1939 ~ February 17, 2024

Born in: Hughes Springs, Texas
Resided in: Douglassville, Texas

Ray Dean Richardson, 84, of Douglassville, Texas, passed away February 17, 2024, with his devoted and loving wife Ida Mae by his side. Ray was born June 13, 1939, to James Frank and Lillian Mae Richardson in Hughes Springs, TX. He was the tenth of fifteen children and maintained close, loving relationships with his siblings and their families throughout life.

Ray and Ida Mae married May 11, 1959, and made their home in Douglassville, TX where they raised their two children. They were surrogate parents to multiple others as their door and hearts have been opened to many throughout the years with the philosophy that you do not have to share DNA to be considered family. He worked as a logger until retiring in 2004. Ray, or “Deaner” as he was called by many, was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, water skiing, gardening and good conversations under the shade tree. Family was also very important, as he and his wife hosted countless family get-togethers at their home where good food, games, and live music were enjoyed by all. His canine companions were extremely dear to him. Arlo, Zoe, and Buster have stayed behind with “mama”; but Blossom, Blackie, and JD are on a long walk through the garden with him now.

Ray was preceded in death by his son Michael Ray Richardson, his parents, brothers Melburne, Bobby, Eucline, Marion and Jamie, sisters Esther, Eunice, Sylvia, Dorothy, and Frances.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae (Sims) Richardson; daughter & son-in-law, Renee & Mark Nunn; daughter-in-law, Troyla Woodruff; granddaughters, KiAnn Richardson & Perin Ross; grandson, Chuck Priestly; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Gabe, Owen and Olivia; siblings, Eula, Jackie, Gerald and Kathy; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other chosen family members.

Ray was strong willed and often stubborn, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He will be remembered for all of the heart he shared with his family and friends. He truly loved each of them – and if you were fortunate enough to be on that list, you knew it. He will be forever missed.

Ray will be laid to rest at 11:00 a.m. February 23, 2024 at Douglassville Cemetery, next to his son and mother, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden. There will be a time of visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
