Funeral services for Mrs. Jewel Dowell, age 73, of Avinger, Texas, will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Hughes Springs Community Church.  Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.  Mrs. Dowell will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Mrs. Dowell passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, July 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Jewel was born to Mary Epps and Jewel Webster in Cass County, Texas.  She attended Fairview High School of Linden, Texas.  After high school, she attended Texarkana college and pursued her nursing degree.  During her career, she married her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Chris Dowell.

Jewel was a faithful member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Avinger, Texas, where she served diligently until her health failed her.

Jewel worked at Linden Municipal Hospital for 42 years as RN in nursing, also Good Shepherd Medical Center.  She later worked for Golden Villa Nursing Home for 5 years.

Jewel was a loving wife and mother.  She was preceded in death by her parents, son; Courtney D. Dowell; sister, Lurlean Epps; grandmother, Mary M. Epps; mother-in-law, Mattie Dowell; and brother, Jerry Webster.

She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted and loving husband, Chris Dowell of Avinger; daughter, Lisa Allen (Cory) of Avinger; sons, Demetric Dowell (Rhonda) of Hughes Springs, Treston Dowell (La Tersha) of Jefferson; sister, Yolanda (Gerald) of Hughes Springs; brother, Greg Webster of Linden; stepson, Cedric Peppers; grandchildren: Von Shae Wesley, Jabarri Wesley, Sr., Shabrittney Gonzales, Kourtlyn Dowell, Courtney B. Dowell, Sha’Sha; Ransom, Shaq Ransom; great-grandchildren, Jabarri Wesley, Jr., Ga’Ienari Wesley, Kivenna Wesley, Kristian Ransom, Kali  Ransom and one on the way; a special niece, Jasmine Epps, and special nephew, Corderall Epps; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
