Services to celebrate and honor the life of Mr. Billy Wayne Barnard, age 77, of Cason, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Veal Switch Baptist Church, with Bro. Scott Darby officiating, and under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation with family and friends one hour prior to service time Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the church.
Mr. Barnard was born on November 29, 1947, in Daingerfield, Texas, to Mr. Jewell Barnard and Mrs. Netler Croley Barnard. He passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025, in Hughes Springs, Texas.
With a steadfast dedication to his community, Mr. Barnard served in law enforcement for over 30 years, first as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Morris County Sheriff’s Department and later for several years as a Resource Officer at Paul Pewitt ISD. He took great pride in his work and the impact he made in keeping others safe.
Beyond his career, Mr. Barnard had a deep appreciation for simple joys. He had a passion for knives and was especially skilled at sharpening them. He also had a great love for his goats, tending to them with care and affection. His heart for service extended into his ministry work with the Cason Food Pantry, where he not only helped those in need but also looked after his fellow volunteers with kindness and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell and Netler Croley Barnard; and his son, Mr. Mark Barnard. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Mrs. Martha Barnard; daughter, Sondra Lyle (Johny); son, Rick Taylor (Trudy); son, Roger Taylor (Robyn); daughter, Sharlotte Porter (Jerry); son, Shawn Taylor; grandchildren: Jennifer Wallace, Ceselie Tobin, Carmen Taylor, Casey Morgan (Mark), Daniel Taylor, Amanda Carson (Louie), Jacob Taylor (Taylor), Reagan Johnson (Scooter), Treston Taylor (Mary), James Porter, Hunter Porter, Alex Sartor, Abigail Crawford, Asa Gaul, Aaron Gaul (Leslie), Andrew Gaul; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Barnard will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his community, his quiet strength, and the generosity he showed to those around him.
