Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Pyland, age 74, of Longview, Texas, will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City. Burial will follow at Ore City Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation with family and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the funeral home.
Mary passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and family.
She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She cherished time with her family, found joy in dancing, and loved watching Criminal Minds. A spirited woman with a playful heart, Mary also enjoyed trips to the casino and making memories with those she held dear.
She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Anderson (Dianne) and Daniel Pyland (Teresa); her daughter, Loretta Lynne Shumate and husband Michael; one brother, Johnny Dempsey; and five sisters: Linda Gail Myers, Sandra Myers, Phyllis Green, Frankie Griffin, and Susie Bassett. Mary also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought great joy and pride to her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James and Eva Dempsey; her husband, Daniel Ray Pyland Sr.; her brother, James “Bubba” Dempsey; her grandson, William Dane Robertson; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Landon James Spangler; and brother-in-law, Steve Bassett.
Mary will be remembered for her lively personality, deep love for her family, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her memory will live on through the stories, smiles, and strength of those she loved.

Sorry for not being able to be there for Your promotion, I’m sure that everyone was so happy to see you when you got home. We had some good times and I will alway’s hold you in my heart and thanks for never giving up on me. You will be missed greatly, I will miss your nightly texts I Love you, now go catch up with everyone, I know that they were ecstatic to see you. Rest easy and watch over all of us here.
