Dwen Raney

March 26, 1948 ~ August 25, 2025
Born in:
Atlanta, Texas
Resided in:
Bivins, Texas
Born March 26, 1948, in Atlanta, Texas, Dwen lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, and devotion to her family. She had a natural green thumb and loved tending to her yard and garden. A bird watcher and animal lover, she found joy in feeding her chickens, squirrels, foxes, and the many birds that visited her home. She was an accomplished cook who prepared everything from scratch, and she delighted in gathering her family around the table.
Dwen’s hands were always busy with acts of care, whether sewing, gardening, or helping others in need. She was a faithful member of McLeod Church of Christ and a cherished part of a large extended family. Above all, she deeply loved her children and grandchildren, who were the pride of her life.
Over the years, she poured her energy and creativity into her work, owning and operating Merle Norman Cosmetics for more than 20 years, lending her talents to Benita’s Flower Shop, and working alongside her husband Roy at Raney’s Carpet Store.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel “Mutt” and Howard “Buster” Wicks; her brother, Larry Wicks; and her beloved son, Darrel Alan Raney.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Willis Knighton Cancer Center, including Dr. Peddi, Ashley, Shawna, and Eddie; the staff of North Caddo Medical Center Rehab; and the compassionate team at Heritage Hospice for their dedicated care. They also wish to thank the many family members and friends who offered visits, calls, meals, prayers, and support during her journey.
A memorial service to celebrate Dwen’s life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at McLeod Church of Christ.

I’m sorry to hear of your passing cousin. Rest in peace and enjoy the other side.
Whenever I’d meet or visit Dwen, it never failed that she radiated on her face the joy of the Lord. I do believe that a God-given gift was that of hospitality. She was instrumental in planning and organizing extended family reunions and school reunions. She welcomed friends to visit with her at her childhood home; the most memorable for me was on her large back porch, her “reading porch.” I’ll miss her.
