Born in: Seattle, Washington
Resided in: Jacksonville, Texas

Marilyn Dorothy Hicks, 91, of Jacksonville, Texas, peacefully passed away on September 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Marilyn was born on June 7, 1934, to Merrill and Dorothy Hall of Seattle, Washington.

In 1955, she met Charles Hicks of Daingerfield, Texas, at a Baylor football game in Seattle, Washington. They were married on November 3, 1956. Charles and Marilyn went on to have three children: Michael, Malinda, and Kenneth. They were married for over 64 years, until Charles’ death in June 2021.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gary Hall; a sister, Carolyn Rusch; her husband, Charles; her son, Michael Hicks; and her daughter, Malinda Mead.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sheila Hicks, and her sister, Tamra Baker. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews are left to cherish her memory.

Early in Marilyn’s life, she began pursuing and developing a number of interests. One of these was Scandinavian dance music. She became an accomplished dancer and toured and performed in many Scandinavian countries as a member of a dance team.

Marilyn also pursued the art of sewing. This was taught to her and her sisters by their mother. She soon became a skilled seamstress, an interest she carried throughout her life. During the 50 years that she lived in Daingerfield, she became highly sought after for her work, creating bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses, and expertly altering all types of clothing. Her skills were well known throughout Daingerfield and the surrounding communities.

Marilyn was well-read and developed knowledge on many topics. Later in life, she enjoyed watching game shows, especially her favorite, Jeopardy.

As a married adult with three small children, Marilyn made the most important decision of her life: she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She faithfully served Him for more than 50 years at South Union Missionary Baptist Church, where she attended Sunday school, sang in the choir, served in the nursery, and helped in many other areas as needed.

Graveside services for Mrs. Hicks will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2025, at Clark Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.
