It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Melvyn Hugh Wright, who left us on November 17, 2025, at the age of 83. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher, and coach, Melvyn was a man of integrity, kindness, and quiet strength, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Melvyn was born on October 12, 1942, in Marshall, Texas. He pursued his education at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he not only earned his degree but also met the love of his life, Roilynn Sue Wright (born October 24, 1943). They married on January 22, 1966, beginning a beautiful journey that led to a lifetime of love and partnership. Together, they raised two children, Mark and Majel, building a home filled with warmth, support, and laughter.

Melvyn dedicated his life to shaping young minds as a teacher and inspiring athletes as a football coach, leaving a lasting impact on countless students and players over the years. Beyond his career, he found great joy in the outdoors, spending his time hunting, fishing, and crafting intricate wood carvings—hobbies that brought him both peace and fulfillment.

Melvyn was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel Hugh Wright and Lindell Taylor; his son, Mark, who passed away on May 6, 1988; and his brother-in-law, James Page. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Roilynn Sue Wright; his daughter, Majel Clark (and her husband, Chris Clark); his three grandchildren, Tad Clark, Hannah Rubio (and her husband, Tanner Rubio), and Jarrod Clark; Jarrod’s fiancée, Enjela Gaya; and his three great-grandchildren, Brinley Rubio, Caroline Clark, and Cam Rubio. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy Page, who remained a loving part of the family.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on a date yet to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ore City Athletics, honoring Melvyn’s legacy of teaching, coaching, and love for the outdoors.

Melvyn will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the wisdom, encouragement, and warmth he shared. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family extends a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Trevisio Transitional Care, Lifecare Hospice, and Dr. Rick Earnest for taking such good care of him.
