Funeral services for Mrs. Susie L. James, 102, of Naples, Texas, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2025, in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery.  Mrs. James will lie in state for viewing from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2025, at the funeral home.

Susie L. James was born on June 4, 1923, in Cass County, Texas, to Dollie M. Hillis and Elish Edney. She passed away on November 18, 2025, at 102 years old.

Susie attended Mt. Olive Grade School. She assisted at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home and the Mt. Olive Cafeteria in various capacities.

Susie joined Bethlehem AME Church at an early age, remaining a devoted servant of God throughout her life. She served in numerous roles, including singing and cooking.

She was married to Johnnie James for 60 years. During their union they had one daughter, Ruthie Faye James Brooks of Texarkana, Texas. Susie also helped care for and raise numerous other children.

She is survived by her daughter; three grandchildren: Angela Bunn (Donald) of Hooks, Texas; Yolanda Brooks Evans of Texarkana, Texas; and Grallin Brooks of Texarkana, Texas. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, extending to five generations; special nieces, Norma Royal and O. Sheets; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
