Born in: Bono , Arkansas
Resided in: Hughes Springs, Texas

Sue Marie “Mertal” Bryant, 79, of Hughes Springs, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Hughes Springs, Texas. She was born on October 18, 1946, in Bono, Arkansas, to Lois Humphrey and George Bryant.
Sue was a woman full of personality. She was “a hoot” and  loved to give people a hard time. She could be a handful at times, but those who knew her best also knew the sweetness behind her spirited nature. Her laughter and lively presence will be deeply missed.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially playing bingo and spending time fishing. Sue dedicated more than ten years of service working for her good friends, Mike and Judy Penny, relationships she valued greatly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Billy Huskey; her daughters, Amanda Cantrell and Sue Ann Huskey; her son-in-law, Joel Webb; her sisters, Jeannie and Johnnie; and her beloved dog, Tiny Girl, who brought her much comfort and companionship.

Sue leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her children, Latachya Webb of Sulphur Springs, Jackie Delaney (Jay) of Meadville, Mississippi, Michelle Barnard (Billy) of Hughes Springs, and Lloyd Huskey (Michelle) of Sulphur Springs.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Shannon Russell (Ashley), Timo Torres (Mindy), Dustin Goldsmith (Laina), Brandon Goldsmith, (Lauren), Cynthia Scribner (Mike), Chris Perry (Jessica), Jessica Colvin (Chris), Cassandra Gutierrez (Alfredo), Wayne Cantrell (Lauren), Nikkie Burt (Nathan), Autumn Huskey, and Allen Morehead (Jordan); numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Jinger and Sharon; many aunts, uncles, extended family members, and dear friends; and her cherished dog, Reecie, who continues to be a special part of the family.

Through every season of her life, she stayed strong and never lost the spirited spark that made her who she was.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
