Delta Reece Floyd Hamilton was born May 11, 1934, to Willie and Exar Floyd. She went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2026, at her home in Frisco, Texas.
She is survived by three daughters: Reina Witzel and husband, Jim, of Prosper, Texas; Sue Donald of Moberly, Missouri; and Marsha Monroe and husband, Kirk, of Linden, Texas; five grandchildren: Traci and Jonathan Piott, Savannah Monroe and Isaac Bates, Joshua Donald, Tori Donald, and Kayli Witzel; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Delta was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hamilton; her parents; grandson, Gerald Patterson; and siblings, Dorothy Reese, Doil Floyd, and Anita Smith.
Delta lived most of her life in the Linden and Hughes Springs area and graduated from Linden High School.
She worked as a bookkeeper at a jewelry store, a secretary at a law office, at Red River Army Depot putting pins in hand grenades, and went door to door with her young children in tow selling Avon products.
She enjoyed watching professional football and baseball on TV, watching movies, collecting sports cards, playing dominoes and various card games, sewing, and playing the piano. What she enjoyed most was being Granny D to her grandchildren.
Serving God and helping others was very important to Delta. She was very active with Vacation Bible School during her daughters’ youth as well as her grandchildren’s. She learned to play the piano in her 50s and played at Mill Creek Baptist Church for several years.
Granny D, as she became known, loved her grandchildren and never passed up a chance to be with them. Delta was always giving whatever she had to help others, from sitting with family and friends during illness to giving of her time or money.
After moving to a full-care nursing facility, Delta would sit with other residents, caring for them as much as she could when their families could not be there. A few residents called her “Mama” because of the love and care she extended to them in their time of need.
Delta was a two-time cancer survivor, as well as surviving an unexplained near-death state for several months, allowing her to love and live for another 10+ years. She once said that God allowed her to survive through so many diseases and illnesses because He still needed her to be a blessing to others.
