Penny Abernathy was born on August 26, 1974, in Morris County, Texas. She passed away on August 3, 2026, at her home in Longview, surrounded by her loving family.

Penny spent much of her adult life in the Dallas area, where she worked as a private caregiver and in a clinical setting. Caring for others came naturally to Penny. Her unwavering kindness, generous heart, and joyful spirit touched countless lives and will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Gary and Carolyn Abernathy; two brothers, Terry “Lil Goob” Abernathy and Gary Stephen Abernathy; and her mother-in-law, Julia Royal.

She is survived by her husband, Eric Royal; her sister and brother-in-law, Debbie Abernathy and Wes Bell of Beckville; her brother and sister-in-law, J.P. and Marla Abernathy of Jefferson; two daughters, Sadie Griffith of Grand Prairie and Rayvon Green of Longview; two sons, D.J. Griffith of Longview and Rayshod Green of Dallas; her grandchildren, Kayla, A.J. Legend, Dexter, and Espn; her sister-in-law, LaKesha Royal and husband, Deon Taylor; her brother-in-law, Derrick Royal; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will host a celebration of Penny’s life at a later date, with details to be announced once arrangements have been finalized.

We had been through many things working together and I never regret getting you out of your bad situation and helping you start your knew life. I was so proud of your accomplishments, I always knew you would go far and do great things! Your children were your shine stars as were your grandchildren! I know you have earned your wings and now are with those loved ones you missed so much! Fly high my dear friend, I will miss and love you always!
