Vernell Boyd

November 28, 1933 ~ July 31, 2016
Vern attended high school in the 1950s where she graduated at the top of her class. She went on to further her education at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas.
Vern was added to the body of Christ at an early age. She was an active member of Oak Grove Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School to the teens and provided wisdom to the ladies bible courses. She worked several years at Red River in Texarkana. During her later years she worked for the city of Cason as a Post Master.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Boyd; seven sisters; and four brothers.
Vernell was peacefully called to rest on Sunday, July 31, 2016. She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Bryan Boyd (Deborah) of Cason, Russell Boyd (Jane) of Dallas, Keith Boyd (Diane) of Cason; two sisters, Lillie Bell Smith (Clarence), and Ethel Hamilton Smith of Cason; five grandchildren, Shandeli Markley (Chad), Brandon Boyd, Janise Boyd, Kelsi Boyd, Chase Boyd; three great-grandchildren, Damarian Hackett, Meliyah and Makena Markley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services for Mrs. Boyd will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Oak Grove Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. She will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at funeral home.
