Rod Darris

rod darris
Francis Rod Darris of Pittsburg, Texas departed this life for his eternal home on July 18, 2016. Rod was born on April 27, 1947 in Jonesboro (Newport), Arkansas.
Rod was a Vietnam veteran having served as a Fire Protection Specialist in the United States Air Force. He supported the war effort as a Senior Airman while stationed in Thailand and received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal. Rod also served as Quarter Master for VFW Post # 7782 in Clarendon, Texas. Following his stint in the Air Force, Rod made his mark as a new and used car dealer for more than 46 years. Rod was an active member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsburg.
Rod was known to many for his sense of humor and made it his mission to bring a bit of laughter to those around him. He had no fear when it came to practical jokes and he had no problem being the object of the laughter. His laughter lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a generous man. He believed that those who worked hard should be rewarded for their efforts and he was known to be a big tipper. Not only was "love everybody and hate no one" his motto but he lived it.

In 1991, Rod met the woman who would eventually tame him. He and Karen dated for 3 years before going their separate ways. Both knew that true love never dies and they each carried the other in their heart for the next 17 years. They reunited in 2011 and were inseparable. Rod married his Flash in 2015 and they spent their days making up for lost time. The morning he left this world, Rod passed from the arms of his loving wife into the arms of his Lord and Savior.

Rod is preceded in death by his mother Martha Snyder and grandmother Tillie Snyder. He will be missed by his wife, Karen McClellan Darris of Pittsburg, Texas, sister Nancy (Leroy) Odom of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, mother in law Shirley McClellan, brother in law Richard McClellan, Jr and Mayo McClellan, all of Daingerfield, Texas, sister in law Angela (David) Gilmore of Dallas, Texas and three daughters Kimberly Darris, of Sperry, Oklahoma, Annya (Ed) Fletcher, Sperry, Oklahoma and Jessica (Ryan) Worch of Tulsa, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews as well as many close friends.

Services for Mr. Darris, 69, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsburg. There will be a time of fellowship immediately following the service.
