gretna rountree
Gretna Blankenship Rountree, age 90, of Pine Bluff, formerly of Linden, TX, drew her last breath on this earth Saturday, February 27, 2016 and was released from the cruel shackles of Alzheimers Disease that had bound her for the past eight years. We are thankful that she is free, well, and whole at last.

Born January 24, 1926 at Linden, (Cass County), Texas, she was a daughter of the late Robert Edwin Blankenship and Pearl May Perser Blankenship, who were both school teachers and had a dairy farm. Her father died when she was nine years old, and her mother was left to raise three daughters and run a farm during The Great Depression. She was a strong-willed, hard-working, independent Texas woman.

Mrs. Rountree was a lifetime resident of Linden until moving to Pine Bluff in 2009 to be cared for by her daughter. At home, she was a member of First Baptist Church, the Linden Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and volunteered for many years with the Linden Municipal Hospital Auxiliary.

She worked for many years in the family business, First National Bank of Linden (now Texana Bank), serving on the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Board, and was Chairman Emeritus at the time of her death.

Her husband, Earl Wayne Rountree, Jr., preceded her in death on February 15, 1994. Also predeceasing her are a son, Earl Wayne Rountree, III; a sister, Dorothy Echols; and infant twin brothers.

Gretna leaves behind her loving family, consisting of a son, John Rountree and wife, Pat of Linden; her daughter, Nancy Rountree Fuller and husband, Chuck of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; a daughter-in-law, Iva Brown Rountree of Linden; a sister, Ann Fulcher Wise of Naples, Texas; her grandchildren, Earl Wayne Buz Rountree, IV and wife, Jennifer of Richardson, Texas, John Patrick Rountree of Texarkana, Robert Michael Rountree and wife, Megan of Keller, Texas, Samantha Sheraton Rountree of Dallas, Edwin Spencer Fuller of Plano, Texas, and Nancy Caroline Fuller of Little Rock Arkansas; a great-granddaughter, Camilia Elise Rountree; many nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Trinity Village Medical Center and Gretnas friend and caregiver, Ruby Brown, for their loving care during her illness.

  3. John,Although our families go back further than when we were born, I particularly held your mom in high esteem. Such a fine lady. Plus, she was such a great friend to Marian after Elmer left us at much too young of an age. She is at peace now and at pure rest so I can find comfort in knowing that. Your friend, Richard
