Services for Royce Hines, 80, of Hughes Springs will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 at Veal Switch Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Veal Switch Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6 until 8 Thursday evening at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hines; four children and their spouses and significant others, Wayne Hines, Naomi Barger, Amanda Phillips, and Royce Palmer Hines, Jr.; grandchildren, James Lil Jack Phillips and Lucian Phillips. Royce was born on May 12, 1935, and survived many things in his long life. He could recall riding in a wagon. He saw mans most destructive force first hand. He was awestruck to see man walk on the moon and watch technology change. He retired twice in his life time. Once by giving 20 years of service to his country in the U.S. Navy and retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer, and he later retired from A&E machine shop. Royce was known as Spookus to friends and Unk to his nieces, nephews and cousins. Royce was a good man who managed to raise his children, with a steady calm, and teach them the values to lead them through life. Even though Royce may have left this life, his spirit and memory will live on through the lessons he left in the minds and hearts of his children and family.
