July 14, 1945 ~ October 14, 2015
Paul Webster passed away October 14, 2015 in Linden from lung cancer following a lifetime of smoking. He was 70. Paul was born July 14, 1945 in Linden to Carl and Louise Webster. Paul graduated from Linden-Kildare High School and his treks to school were often in snowstorms, where he was frequently attacked by wild animals. He was in the Army and was proud to tell people that North Carolina was not invaded by the North Vietnamese army on his watch. He worked at Witco Chemical in Marshall most of his adult life. His being an adult was questionable. He was a lifetime Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite, serving as past master of Linden Lodge 192and District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District 5 of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Texas. He was past Master of the Linden Lodge and past and present Worthy Patron of Linden Chapter 576 Order of the Eastern Star. He also was a member of the American Legion Post #351 honor guard that does military graveside services for veterans. Paul was a member of FBC-Linden, claiming to not know he was a heathen until he got hearing aids and actually heard a sermon. He had a lovely singing voice, but was usually singing the wrong verse. Loudly. He loved being the center of attention. His wife once had a T-shirt that said My Next Husband Will Be Normal and people understood. Paul had a particular talent for crossword puzzles and fitting 5 letter words into 4 letter spaces. He also enjoyed welding metal sculptures but normally set himself aflame while doing this. His favorite activities were traveling and going out to eat. When his children traveled, he was convinced they would starve and often insisted they pack their own snacks because other cities did not have food available. He was an excellent cook but normally used his skills cooking for his granddogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Louise Webster; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard Daniel and Mildred Webster and a nephew, Rusty Webster. Surviving him are his wife of nearly 52 years, Dixie Webster and children, Tracy Webster and Lance Holloway of Longview, and Clay Webster and Philip Gurganus of Hallsville; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and J.W. Wilson of Linden; grandchildren, Catie Francis of Dallas, Taylor Leftwich of Diana; great-grandsons, Ryder and Weston of Diana. He also leaves behind his beloved granddogs, Marcie, Max, Rebel, Berklely, Reese and Andy. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Linden with Bro. Jackie Stanfield officiating. Burial to follow at the Bear Creek Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 Friday evening at the funeral home. The family would like to thank everyone, especially Heart to Heart Hospice and the family at 5D for their support. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Bear Creek Cemetery Fund in care of Lacey Watson at 111 CR 1631, Linden, TX 75563.
