Hugh Whatley,88, of Linden, TX passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at Linden Healthcare Center, comforted by his wife of 68 years, Jo Ellen and his children. Hugh was born July 17, 1927 in Cass County. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines, was a member of Linden First Baptist Church and a Mason. He worked for Halliburton in Houston, returning to Linden in 1963. Hugh and his wife, Jo Ellen, owned and operated Whatley Grocery from 1963-78. He worked 27 years as a US Mail Carrier, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising cattle and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen Whatley; children, Shirley and husband Edd Hargett of College Station, Danny Whatley of Linden, Dr. Kathy and husband John David Russell of Linden, Marty and wife Pam Whatley of Lodi; grandchildren, Amy Ellen and husband Jay Furman of Stuttgart, Germany, Tedd and wife Katina Hargett of Houston, Thadd and wife Alisyn Hargett of College Station, John Paul Russell of Tyler, Ben Russell of Austin, Julia Denise Russell of Linden; ten great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Morris Hamilton of Linden; sisters-in-law, Lena Wiggins of Linden, Alma Whatley of Winter, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Also special friends, Dr. Sam and Glenda Holder. He is preceded in death by his parents, Miles and Linnie Whatley; sisters, Margret and husband Eugene Forshee, Lucille and husband Lewis Steed, Maxine Hamilton; brothers, Woodie and wife Charlie Dee Whatley and Lloyd Whatley. Services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday August 10, 2015 at the First Baptist Church Linden with Bro. Jackie Stanfield and Bro. Charles Russell officiating. Burial to follow in the Corinth Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden. The family will receive friends from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. Sunday evening at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Linden Healthcare Center for their tender loving care. Memorials can be made to the Corinth Cemetery Fund, 210 E Frazior, Linden, TX 75563 or to the charity of your choice.
