Funeral services for Minnie Sayles Hollins, will be 11:00 a.m., July 4, 2015 at Snow Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at New Mountain Cemetery in Upshur County, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City. Mrs. Hollins will lie in state Friday from 10:00 until 8:00 p.m., with a visitation form 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. She was born to the late Jerry and Maggie Carter, May 10, 1910 in Upshur County. Minnie Ola received her formal education in the New Mountain Public Schools, Ore City, Texas and Center Point Schools, Pittsburg, TX. She married the late Tommie Louis Sayles and to that union four children were born, two of which preceded her in death, Thomas L. Sayles and Earl L. Sayles. She later in life married the late Richard Hollins. Minnie Ola was a pillar of her community and a very hard worker where she worked as a sharecropper and domestic contractor during her lifetime. Minnie Ola was very active and faithful in church. She united with New Mountain Baptist Church and later in life became a faithful member of Snow Hill Baptist Church, where she served as the church secretary for many years and was often asked to give the welcome on special occasions. She enjoyed a full life with extensive travels internationally such as Canada and New Mexico as well as national states such as: Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington D.C. Amongst her most memorable is her visit to the Capital building and the Washington Monument. She also had an opportunity to ride across the Ambassador Bridge and through the underwater Detroit tunnel, which was not one of her favorite moments. Minnie Ola is survived by two children: Samuel Cleon Sayles (Lynn) of Ore City, Dorothy J. Webster of Ore City; daughter-in-law Clara Sayles of Dallas. She is survived by eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
