Earl Wesley Abernathy, passed from this earth on December 26, 2014 in Hughes Springs, Texas. His strong will to live and his kind and loving spirit will be missed by his family and friends. Wesley was born on March 30, 1915 in Anna, Texas to Cicero Egbert Lane Abernathy and Maggie Irene Huebsch Abernathy. After the loss of his mother, he and his siblings relocated to the south Texas town of Christine, in Atascosa County. He met and married Sylvia Blalock in August 1933. They raised their children in the San Antonio area, where he served as an Elder in the Church of Christ. He loved to play the guitar and sing, write poetry, and play card games and dominoes. Throughout his life he maintained a sweet and generous disposition that won the hearts of many. His gift of a cheerful sense of humor will never be forgotten. In his 90's, he made the move to East Texas to be near family, and was a member of the Daingerfield Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sylvia, his daughters Pearl (Polly) Hinton and Shirley Rose Abernathy, his siblings Andrew Preston, Mildred Leona, Jessie Mae, and Maude Eleane. His surviving family members are numerous, but mainly include his daughters Dorothy Odle Stafford and Delores Frankford. His many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren will miss his charm and humor. He was a blessing to his many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. The funeral service was held at 3pm at the Christine City Cemetery, on Sunday, January 45h in Christine, Texas. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Or better yet, do a kind deed in his memory. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support.
