Mrs. Bessie Faye Traylor-Duffey was born on September 30, 1939, to Mr. Rubin and Mrs. Ester Doddy-Traylor of Cason, Texas. Bessie received her early education in the Cason community and in 1957 graduated from the Rhodes High school and was the class Reporter. Upon finishing high school, she attended Hurds Beauty School where she received her Cosmetology License and opened Bessies Beauty Shop. At an early age, Bessie joined Shady Grove Baptist Church in Cason, Texas where early on, she taught Vacation Bible School and in later years was a Deaconess. Bessie would love to attend church regularly until her health declined. Even then, she would often speak of the Goodness of God to those who visited with her as her health declined. On June 7, 1962, she married the love of her life, Mr. Jerry Dwayne Duffey and to this union, one son; Kenneth Wayne Duffey was conceived, however he passed away during delivery, and Bet & Jerry never forgot him. Bessie Faye and Jerry remained married for Fifty-Two Years, Three Months and Thirteen days until the Good Lord called her home on September 20 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview Texas. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rubin and Ester Traylor; one brother, Billy Joe; and her son, Kenneth Wayne Duffey. She leaves to cherish her wonderful memory, her devoted husband, Jerry Duffey of Cason, Texas; sisters, Mildred Hanson and Joann Mathews of Cason, Texas, and Patsy (Dr. Willie) Lett of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, R.T (Alice) Traylor of Longview, Texas, Larry (Dr. Judy) Traylor of Quitman, Texas, Sonnie (Lois) Traylor and Calvin (Yvette) Traylor, Sr. of Dallas, Texas, and Eddie Traylor and Wayne Traylor of Cason, Texas; uncles, O.W. Doddy and Cecil Gene Doddy of Cason, Texas; plus, a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 27, 2014 at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
