Ella D Brown

September 19, 1916 ~ February 26, 2014
On February 26, 2014 the Lord saw fit to call another soldier home. Mrs. Ella D. Wofford Brown was born to Mrs. Clonie Freeman and Mr. Sam Wofford on September 19, 1916 in Upshur County. She accepted Christ at an early age at the Paradise Baptist Church in Gilmer, Texas. She remained a faithful member there until she met and married the love of her life, the late Rev. Roy Brown. Unto this union they were blessed with nine children, seven boys and two girls. Mrs. Ella Browns life exemplified a virtuous woman. She was a faithful wife, mother, and servant of God. Her hobbies consisted of working with her hands as a gardener, seamstress, fishing and a cannery. Her husband and children called her blessed. Because of her love for God and her husband, she left Paradise Church and proceeded with her husband as God had called him to serve as Pastor at many various churches in the East Texas area, preaching and teaching the word of God. She also served in the Eastern Star as a member and the Worthy Matron and later as a Traveler. She was also involved in the work of the Missionary Society which started at the Holly Spring Baptist Church and consisted of many various churches in the East Texas area. Mrs. Ella Browns life was a legacy to many in her home, churches, and community. After her husbands death, she reunited with Paradise Baptist Church in Gilmer, Texas where she served and fellowshipped to help keep the church doors open. Later God saw fit to close the doors of the church and she united with the St. Paul Baptist Church in Ore City under the watch and care of Pastor Johhny Q. Brown. Later as her health began to fail, she moved to Dallas, Texas with her daughter and began fellowshipping at the Greater New Hope Baptist Church under the watch and care of Pastor Coy R. Brown whereas she served until her death. Those preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, the late Rev. Roy Brown; three sons, Elder Alvin D. Brown, J. P. Brown, and Pastor Bennie F. Brown; two sisters, TEster Carter, and Mae D. Morris; one brother, U. S. Carter; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Cora D. Sherwood of Amarillo, Texas, Bertha Lee Andrews of Lancaster, Texas; four sons, Hughie Lee Brown (Ella Mae) of Desoto, Texas, Roy Lee Brown (Verdell), Pastor Coy R. Brown (Jean) both of Dallas, Texas, and Pastor Johnny Q. Brown (Dorothy) of Longview, Texas. Also cherishing her memory are two daughters-in-law, Theautrice Brown of New Diana, Texas and Maxine Brown of Dallas, Texas; twenty-nine grandchildren; and a host of great, great-great, and great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Also to cherish her memory is a very special friend, Angela Hughes of Ore City. Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St Paul Baptist Church in Ore City, with Pastor B. W. Craig officiating. Burial will follow at New Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City. Mrs. Brown will lie in state from 1-5 Friday afternoon at the funeral home.
I pray God continues to strengthen and comfort the family during times like these. God bless!
