Robert Glen Bodwell

November 18, 1932 ~ February 21, 2014
Robert Glenn Bodwell, 81, of Avinger, Texas, died February 21, 2014 unexpectedly of a massive heart attack. Robert was born in Winterset, Iowa to the family of Irwin and Verna (Epperson) Bodwell. Robert Glenn Bodwell married Mary Katherine Bindel on March 9, 1962 in Omaha Nebraska. Robert and Mary both grew up in Winterset, Iowa until retiring and moving to Avinger, Texas in the early 1980s. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Mary Bodwell; his parents Irwin and Verna Bodwell; and four brothers, Herman, Grant, Melvin, and Norman. Robert is survived by his four children; Phillip Bodwell, Gary Bucklin, Robert Bucklin, and Walana S. Welch, two brothers, Wallace and Shirley (Wink) Bodwell, and one sister, Marilyn Bodwell Driscoll. All of his family and friends knew Robert as Bob. Bob moved to Texas to retire, but he also wanted to keep busy. Bob worked as a Security Guard for and elderly lady in Longview, Texas, which he really enjoyed. Bob also enjoyed traveling. He would get in his truck and just drive. He wouldnt stay very long in one place but he did enjoy the driving. Bob was also a gun enthusiast and an NRA member. He was always talking about the new rules and regulations that the government tried to impose on us all, which he did not agree with at all. He loved to hunt and shoot his guns, which he did quite often. Bob would get on his tractor and clean up the yard and the property surrounding his house. He loved his tractor and played quite a bit with it. Bob also loved the game of Dominoes and any chance he got he would have people over to play and sometimes let them win, but most often he won. Bob was a conservative man who enjoyed watching conservative talk show hosts Rush Limbaugh, Bill OReilly and Glenn Beck on television. He sometimes was quite vocal in opposition to the liberal news media and liberal politicians. Yet at the same time, he was a carefree man and everyone he met loved him. He had a big heart and would give the shirt off his back to you if you needed one. He will be dearly missed by all of his family, friends and acquaintances. A memorial service will be held March 28, 2014 at Pruitt Lake Cemetery.

Well my friend, you went just as you would have liked, leaving work. Looking back I think the good lord moved me off the hill because you weren't going to be with us much longer. I will miss all my, "good morning Angel" text messages. All my calls that you need help with your phone. I'm still laughing that your phone didn't work because so how you got your phone on Chinese, ha ha. I met all your friends, either in person, on the phone, or you sent me pictures. What a great bunch you knew. We were a strange pair, but you were my best friend and I you. I will mists you dearly and our domino games. I won't forget you my friend.
Well, I am shocked as I wasn't through being your friend and checking up on you. So happy we reconnected and shared stories but sad we didn't get together to have that big bowl of ice cream but we will on down the road. Miss you.
So sorry to hear about my dear friend. Prayers to Wink and the family. RIP Bob!
the BodwellsMy dad (Billy Farlow) was well-acquainted with the Bodwell clan in Winterset, IA and when I was quite young I remember meeting a few of them. I didn't socialize with them during my school years in Winterset, but was happy to reconnect with Bob on Facebook after these many years. He was kind enough to visit my mother (Kathryn Farlow) at West Bridge Care and Rehab when he was in town and it just so happened that when we both ended up in Winterset this past October we got to meet there and reminisce a little. (My mother used to go skating with Bob's brother Melvin when she was in high school – she told me he was a year behind her). I shared a picture of the two of them with Bob. The picture I posted in the photo gallery is the one I took of Mother and Bob in October. Her 91st birthday was the end of October and Bob surprised her with a flower arrangement and he signed the card 'Bad Bob'. Mother chuckled as she told me how all the ladies there were wondering who her admirer was! Bob was a kind and honest and true person, and he will certainly be missed. Wink and your family, I hope you enjoy this story.
My heart is certainly with you all during this difficult time – the good thing is that Bob and Mary are together once more and in the arms of a loving God. My mother (Kathryn Farlow) and I send our condolences your way and hope you will find comfort in knowing so many people loved Bob.
So sorry you are gone. It is to my advantage that I knew so many years. Hope to see you and Mary again when it's time.
