Melvin McCoy

Funeral services for Mr. John Melvin McCoy, 95, of Hughes Springs will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6 until 8 Friday evening at the funeral home. Melvin McCoy was born June 5, 1918 in Bryans Mill and passed away February 12, 2014 in Hughes Springs. He was a mameber of First United Methodist Church. He was retired from the Navy where he served in WWII and the Korean War. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and served in the Honor Guard for many years. John later worked for Thiokol Chemical in Marshall, owned and operated Western Auto in Naples for 12 years, and Tri City Farm Supply in Hughes Springs for 12 years. He enjoyed his jobs and loved working in the yard. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Alford, Leo, and O.L. McCoy. Survivors include his wife Pansy McCoy of Hughes Springs; one daughter and son-in-law Linda McCoy Simms and Gary of Bryans Mill; two sons and daughters-in-law Dr. James Weldon and Cindy Hampton of Oxford North Carolina and Michael Anthony and Sharon Hampton of Hughes Springs; ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
A lifetime of memories. Melvin's good nature and sense of humor will be missed. It was a privilege to have known him.
