LINDEN TX Joseph (J.L.) Gay, 95, of Linden, died at his home in the Center Hill community Tuesday, August 6, 2013. He was born April 27, 1918 in Daingerfield to Joseph Samuel Lee Gay and Mattie Sewell Gay. Mr. Gay was a retired health inspector for the City of Houston and a farmer. He was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two children, Betty Reames and Gary Gay, and a granddaughter, Amy Gay. Survivors include his wife Marie Gay of Linden; a daughter, Lelda Heard of Houston; four grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Phyllis Traylor of Conroe, Mark Traylor of Houston, Tammy Barta of Linden, and Steven and Annette Gay of South Houston; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and a many other family members and friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Friday, August 9, 2013 in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden with Bro. Kevin Holt officiating. Interment will follow in Center Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
