Janis Gibson Rankin

Janis Rankin passed away on Tuesday, June 4th at the age of 87. She was born in Hughes Springs on October 28, 1925 to Nathaniel and Sadie Harrell Gibson. Janis was married to Arnold J. Rankin, on July 2, 1943. Early in their marriage they enjoyed several years of snow-capped mountains, sandy desert and the grassy valley of Blue Diamond, Nevada. Homesick, they moved back home to Hughes Springs and enjoyed fifty-eight years together. Janis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs. She enjoyed her family and visiting with friends. She never met anyone that she would not strike up a lively conversation with. Janis smiles would brighten any moment. Funeral arrangements are with Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, of Hughes Springs, Texas. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, June 7, 2013, at the funeral home. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Reeder-Davis Chapel, with Bro. Bryan Baggett officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Sadie Gibson ; her husband Arnold Rankin, on August 10, 2001; a baby brother, William; three sisters, Evelyn Adams, Jaquelyn Shelton, and Harolyn Burney; and two brothers, W. P. and Ted Gibson. Janis is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws, Rebecca and John Ronnie Sneed, of Wolf City, and Vickie and Mike Dyke, of Daingerfield. She enjoyed her four grandchildren and their wives/husbands, Jonathan and Mary Sneed, of Garland, Kelley and Nick Alexander, of Hughes Springs, Michael and Jennifer Dyke, of Houston, Rachel and Kris Yoder, of Beaufort, South Carolina. She has nine great-grandchildren, Jaden, Jaycee, Kenzie, and Olivia Alexander, Karleigh Dyke, Taylor and Morgan Yoder, and Stella and Penelope Sneed. She is also survived by her two brothers and their wives, Joe and Mima Rae Gibson, of Bedford, and Pat and Mary Jean Gibson, of Mesquite; her sister Barbara Smith, of Hughes Springs; as well as several nephews and nieces.
