Funeral services for Louis H. Hootie Elrod, 83, of Hughes Springs, will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, of Hughes Springs. The family will receive visitors from 6 until 8 , Monday evening, at the funeral home. Mr. Elrod was born November 27, 1929 and passed away April 14, 2013. He was a Korean War Army Veteran. He retired after many years at Lone Star Steel and was also a retired school bus driver. Hootie was preceded in death by his wife, Weida Elrod. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Donna Elrod, of White Oak; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debra and Robbie Higginbotham, of Hughes Springs, and Rebecca Strickland, of Queen City; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister Pluma Barrett, of Linden; and a very special friend, Ms. Betty Wassom.
God goes with those who go with Him. Schoolbus drivers also carry precious lives in their hands. Mr. Hootie was a blessing.
Mr. Hootie was a great neighbor and friend. He will be missed by many. Our love and prayers to everyone.
My heart goes out to you all, Hootie was one of a kind, a great man, and will truly be missed. Deb, wish I could be there for you in person but please know you are in my prayers and thoughts. Love your family so much. May you all hold close to God and get your strength from Him.
