A private burial for Elwyn Glen Smith, 77, of Hughes Springs, was held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Smith was born April 28, 1935 and left this earth August 8, 2012. He was a Navy veteran, attended G.I. school, and retired from Lone Star Steel after 36 years. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister. Survivors include his wife of 54 years Barbara Smith, of Hughes Springs; two daughters, Kim Standridge, of Longview, and Kristy Melton and husband Bobby, of Corinth, TX; two grandsons Byrce Standridge and wife Heather, and Hunter Standridge, all of Longview; one great grandson Colton Standridge, of Longview; one brother Leroy Smith and wife Sarah; and one sister, Joanne Thomas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs, or the American Cancer Society.

  5. I did not know Elwyn but am so sorry to hear about this death. The death of someone loved may be one of the hardest things to cope with. Jesus made this wonderful promise: John 5:21,28,29- "For just as the Father raises the dead up and makes them alive, so the Son also makes those alive whom he wants to. Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment." We have the hope of seeing the ones we love again. My thoughts are with the family.

  7. Dad I miss you so much. I wasn't prepared for this. We need you its going to be really hard to let you go. I think a part of me died when you died. I hate that you ad to suffer at the end. I wish there was something I could have done. I Love You Dad. forever and ever
