Funeral services for Melvin Douglas Stanley, 58, of Daingerfield, will be 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 14, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Daingerfield with Bro. Brian Baggett officiating. Burial will follow at Daingerfield Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc., of Hughes Springs. The family will have a time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the funeral home. Chief Stanley was born April 10, 1954 and passed away June 11, 2012 in a Longview hospital. He served as Chief of Police for the City of Daingerfield. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and JoAnn Stanley. Survivors include one son, Trampas Melvin Douglas Stanley and wife Lisa, of Linden; two daughters, Audi Smallwood and husband Marcus, of Linden, and Andi Green and husband Jim, of Athens, Texas; two sisters, Sherry Gandy and Judie Montgomery and husband Billy , all of New Caney, Texas; seven grandchildren, Allie, Jaici and Easton Smallwood, Cade and Dylan Stanley, PayBo and Colby Green.

Trampas, Andie, and Audie…I am so sad to hear this news. Oh my, the memories!!!! Our families had so many good times together when yall were children. Its hard enough for yall to have lost your mom; my friend…I still miss her so much. but now your Dad…so sad. We love yall. You kids stay close.. You have to….for your parents. Take care of each oher. Their memory will love forever in our hearts.
I am so very sorry for the loss of Doug. He was a good man and wonderful friend while I was there. I will miss him.

Doug was a good officer, always willing to listen, not just talk. Simply, Doug wanted to not just arrest, but to be right. He wanted his officers to be professional and courteous. His service to our community was great. His smile and good cheer will be missed.
