Mrs. Dorothy Lena (Bullocks) Jones was born September 20, 1928 in Magnolia, Arkansas to Nary Bream and Sam Pearson. She was reared by John Clayton Bullocks and step mother Carrie Bullocks in Magnolia, Arkansas until the age of sixteen. At the age of sixteen she moved to Avinger, Texas to live with her parents and other siblings. Shortly after coming to Avinger she met and married Charles Jones. To this union fourteen children were born; seven boys and seven girls. She worked as a dietitian for many years for Steed Hospital, several nursing homes facilities and also at Henson Kickernick in Atlanta, Texas. Dorothy joined the Union Hill Baptist Church at an early age. She was a diligent worker serving as a Deaconess, Choir member and Sunday School teacher for numerous years.. She also was known as the Mother of the Church. Upon the closing of Union Hill Baptist church , she joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Avinger where she was a faithful member until her health began to fail. She is preceded in death by one daughter Dianne Hawkins and one son Marshall James Jones; her parents (Sam, Nary, John and Carrie); five sisters Margretta Piggy Pearson, Gladys Pearson Collins, Eva Mae Rose, Bert Anna Clark, Marie Banks, Myrtis Williams; Three brothers Adolphus Pearson, Lemmon and Gary Lee Pearson. She leaves to cherish her memory: Sons Esra Charles Teddy (Malia) Jones of Lassiter, Texas, Donald Ray Jones of Avinger, Texas , Timothy Wayne Jones of Ore City, Texas, Jesse (Adrian) Jones of Tyler, Texas, Steve Jones of Avinger, Texas, Jonathan Bill (Kimberly) Jones of Jefferson, Texas, and LaDarius Jordan Poochie Jones of Baltimore, Maryland. Daughters: Charles Sue Moody of Lassiter, Texas, Jo Ann (Earnest) Gardner of Ore City, Texas, Franciel Evans of Avinger, Texas, Yvonne (Jimmy) Lawton of Cason, Texas, Dorie Marie (Randy) Faulkner of Avinger, Texas, and Rea Donna Jones of Atlanta, Texas. One sister Lessie B. (Saul) Lyons of Chicago Illinois and one brother Sammy Jewel (Sarah) Pearson of Dallas, Texas. Forty three (43) grandchildren, Fifty two (52) Great Grandchildren , and four (4) Great-Great Grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A special son Chris Dowell and special daughters Mary Jones, Monica Michelle Baker, and Karina Garza. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday May 22, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Avinger, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
