Edna Mae Williams

February 20, 1935 ~ May 23, 2018
Edna Mae (Carter) Williams was born on February 20, 1935, in Hughes Springs, Texas to parents Ora Bell (Stewart) Carter and John C. Carter. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother, she died peacefully on May 23, 2018, in Hughes Springs.
Edna relocated to San Francisco in 1949, with her mother and many siblings. She enjoyed a very active faith and life in the Free Methodist Church. In 1951, she met a charming sailor from North Carolina, Don Williams, who was stationed at Treasure Island. They married the following year and spent 50 years together. During Don’s time in the navy, they spent an adventurous time together in Guam, where their first child, Donna Marie was born. After the Navy they lived near Don’s family in North Carolina and held many interesting jobs there among them orphanage house-parents and radio station personnel. Their second child, David Dwayne, was born in that area. They made their way back to the West Coast in 1959 where their third child, Denise Mae was born.
Ultimately they raised their family and made many beloved friends in the community and in the Presbyterian Church in Walnut Grove, California where Don taught school and Edna poured herself into most everything at church and in their children’s schools: VBS, PTA and helping in the classroom.
Edna returned to Hughes Springs in 2004 and enjoyed reconnecting with her family there and playing an active part for many years in Harris Chapel Church. There she also married her first love, Carl Nichols. Although they parted ways, Carl quickly became important to her family and remains so.
Edna loved her Lord, her family, people and the natural beauty of creation. She was quick to make a new friend throughout her life and loved nothing more than enjoying her kids and grandkids, and helping people wherever she could. She was a grandma and playmate extraordinaire, as all of her grandkids will testify.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sisters and brothers: Otis Carter, Arvil Carter, Johnny B Carter, Gene Carter, Mittie Faye Black, Leora Leona Smithson, Perry Waple Black, T. Raymond Black, JT Black, Johnny J. (Pete) Black, Hazel Lea Hall, Mazel Rhea Morris, Joe Eldon Black. She is survived by her children: Donna (Michael) Matthews, David Dwayne Williams, Denise (Tom) Geyer, her grandchildren: Kari (Henry) Johnson, Kasey (Danah) Tibbedeaux, Krystal Tyree, Breton Geyer, Aubrey Geyer, Kenton Geyer; great-grandchildren Blake Tibbedeaux, Breana (John) Long, Katie Johnson; and great-great-grandson Adam Long; sisters-in-law Jo Evelyn Black and Ruby Black and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Edna’s life will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Reeder-Davis Chapel in Hughes Springs with Pastor Lee Colley officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 Saturday evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Alan Hall, Wayne Hall, Randy Black, Delwyn Black, Bret Geyer, Kent Geyer.

I am just now discovering your loss of sweet Edna (fun size as her tshirt said). Our paths crossed only for a brief space of time but to know her was to love her. Belated but sincere just the same are my sympathies. She loved her family deeply. God Bless. JJ Carson
It's Christmas 2019 and I have no idea if anyone will see this but I met Edna at MOUNT HERMON in the Santa Cruz mountains. I was able to stay at visit her on THE PEAR FARM Walnut Gove as well as in HughesSprings TX. Obviously I lost touch sad to say. Even sadder to know that she has passed on. She even came to my cabin at Pinecrest in the Stanislaus National Forest years ago. She was the sweetest most upbeat lady I ever met. I MISS HER I'm sure I met the GEYER FAMILY near Santa Barbara one time also. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU—— FROM DARLENE Deichler 310 542-4279 DDeichler@yahoo.com
Edna, you will live forever in our hearts and our homes. When I first heard that you were being buried instead of cremated, I worried that I wouldn't be able to visit due to the distance. Thankfully I was able to keep part of you close to me, but it is still regrettable that I am not able to visit your final resting place. I love and miss you Enda, rest in piece.
