William Henry Fitts, 79,  of Atlanta was called to be with the Lord on June 5, 2018. William was born February 22, 1939 in Carterville, Texas to Aaron and Myrtle Fitts.

He was joyously welcomed in heaven by his parents, Aaron and Myrtle Fitts; his sisters Waldean Barton and Dorothy Fitts;  his brothers Waylon, Leonard, Paul and George Fitts and his grandson, John Lane Whatley.

Celebrating William’s life is his beloved wife of 31 years Phyllis Braley Fitts;  his brothers Royce Fitts and wife Jerry of Linden, Billy Fitts and wife Freida of Linden; his daughter, Sheila Wolters and husband Mike of Brookdale, Texas;  his son Phillip Fitts and special friend, Aaryn Richardson of Longview;  his stepson Mark Hood and wife Christine of Prosper, Texas and his stepdaughter Sonya Bowen and husband Jeff of Claxton, Georgia.

William’s grandchildren Clint Whatley and wife Theresa of Hallsville, TX and Devin Whatley of Brookeland Texas along with his great-grandchildren, Aly Kay, Hunter, Mason and Addison all of Hallsville.

William and Phyllis’ grandchildren, Chelsea Crouch and husband Officer Dustin Crouch of Prosper, Dillon Hood and Jacob Hood of Prosper, Katie Hastings and husband Dr. Alex Hastings of Bassett, Virginia and SRA Brodie Bowen stationed at Del Rio AFB, Texas.

Visitation will take place at Reeder Davis Funeral Home in Linden, Texas on Saturday, June 9 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

The funeral service  will be  2:30 p.m., Sunday, June 10, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Linden,Texas with Wallace Watkins and Hal Haltom officiating.  Burial to follow in the Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.

The family requests in lieu of flowers to send a love donation to William’s church, Linden First Baptist, the St Jude Foundation or the charity of your choice.

  1. I just loved that man. Whenever a storm was coming, at first clap of thunder or start of rain, he would always say "I told you it was going to rain." He was a mans man. You are missed, William.

  10. I was so saddened to hear of his passing. He was such a sweet man! I didn’t get to see him a lot over the years but when I did he was always smiling and what a wonderful sense of humor he had. He will be dearly missed ! Phyllis, I will remember you and the family in my prayers, and I am sorry I couldn’t make it to the funeral . May God comfort you during this time.
