On August 11, 2018, William Floyd Smith went to dance and sing with Jesus.  His loved ones, gently held him and placed him in Jesus’ arms.  Mr. Smith was born April 10, 1951 in Hughes Springs, TX to Otha Ray Smith and Pluma Elrod Smith.  Floyd served his country proudly in the United States Navy.

Floyd wore #73 when he played for LK and graduated from Linden-Kildare in 1969.  Floyd’s hobbies included supporting those LK Tigers at every football game and hunting arrow heads.

He is survived by his loving wife Valerie Smith of Linden; two sons, JD Smith of Baton Rouge, LA., Jason Smith of Linden; two daughters, Greenlee Faith and Lakelee Grace both of Linden; mother, Pluma Barrett of Linden; brother, Ray Smith and wife Ann of Linden; nephew, Trey Smith of Linden; great-nephew, Christopher Smith of Linden; a special friend of 67 years, Jimmy Liles and many other friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Otha Ray Smith.

Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2018 in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden with Bro. Dan McGuire officiating.  Burial to follow in the Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.

There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home.

  12. Valerie, Greenlee, and Lakelee, We are so sorry for your loss. Floyd was such an interesting person. I loved it when he showed our fourth grade class his arrowhead and artifact collection. You could tell he was truly in his element. He will be greatly missed by our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family.

  13. Big Floyd is a great friend to my dad Charles Huff! He always at every football game and sit with dad and I every time that we seen him. He never met a stranger and had a heart of gold. Valerie and his boys were his world and the grandkids were his life! Truly love this man! Dad and him will have good times!
