Sam Moore

Sammy Leroy Moore, 70 years young, left us Monday, August 27, 2018 at his home in Daingerfield surrounded by his family. Born February 20, 1948 in Rockford, Illinois, son of Raymond and Alline (Smith) Moore. Sam married Dixie Sloan on September 1, 1979 in Black Rock, Arkansas and she was the love of his life. Sam graduated from a small rural school in Clover Bend, Arkansas in 1966 with dreams of someday being a high school basketball coach. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University, he realized that dream and went on to coach for 16 years, in Dublin and Saltilo, taking many of his teams to the finals at regional and state tournaments. He became "Coach" to all that knew him and is still "Coach" to this day. Sam had many passions but none so dear as his competitive love of racing go-carts. He could make an engine do amazing things and he loved the annual family cart racing. We will all miss seeing that big smile, especially the one displayed as he was picking up his first-place trophy from his brother. He was so proud of both his boys and would lovingly marvel at how well they turned out "despite his parenting skills". His grandchildren and many nieces and nephews were also a source of great pride. We will all miss him.

Sam is survived by his wife, Dixie; son, Randy (Teresa), grandchildren, Bradley Moore, Clayton Moore, Kendra Moore, Kristine (Zach) Albin, great-granddaughter, Gracey Albin; son, Sammy (Jill), grandchildren, Conner Moore, Brady Moore, and Cole Moore; twin sister, Sandra Sue (Ken) Welsh, nephew Scott (Heather) Welsh, great-nephews, Emerson and Palmer Welsh, and nephew, Todd (Pam) Welsh, great-niece McKenzie Welsh and great-nephew, Rase Welsh; brother, Robert (Becky) Moore, nephew, Billy Moore, great-nephews, Izaac and Jacob Moore, niece Jenna (Jasen) Elder, great-nephews, Jaxson and Carter Elder; sister, Penny (Charlie) DeMastes, niece Cindy (Kevin) Crabtree, great-niece June Crabtree, nephew Jason (Jenna) DeMastes, great-niece Faye DeMastes. Sam has many cousins and a large group of friends who will also miss him dearly.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Alline Moore, and brother Albert Moore, all of which were taken way too soon, but are now having a glorious reunion in heaven.

Graveside services will be 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at Woodlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are sons, Randy Moore and Sammy Moore, grandsons, Connor Moore, Brady Moore, Cole Moore, and Clayton Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be great-nephews, Izaac and Jacob Moore, Rase, Emerson, and Palmer Welsh, great-niece, McKenzie Welsh, all of which Sam considered his grandkids.
