Jimmie Elizabeth Goolsby left this life to go to be with the Lord on November 9,2018. She was born June 7,1923 in Troup, TX to Jim and Etta Adams. Jimmie lived in Hughes Springs 65 years and then moved to Georgetown TX in 2008.In 2013,she moved to Bedford TX, and then to North Richland Hills in 2016 where she lived until she passed away.

Jimmie graduated from Tyler High School and Federal Institute of Business in Tyler. She worked at Peoples National Bank in Tyler and US Engineers during World War II. She met J.P. Nelson while they attended Federal Institute. J.P. and Jimmie married on May 19,1943 and moved to Fairfield, California where J.P. was in the service.

While in California she worked for Solano Republican in Fairfield. Their first child was born in 1944 and they moved back to Hughes Springs in 1945 to make their home. In the late 1950's she began the credit bureau in her home while being a mother to two more children. Then she began a newspaper career as a photo journalist that lasted over 40 years. She worked for the Hughes Springs New Era, The Steel Country Bee, Longview News, Atlanta Citizens Journal, and the Gilmer Mirror. She was a member of The Press Association. She was recognized as one of the Notable Women of Texas. There were other jobs Jimmie worked such as, dental assistant, manager of a dept. store, and a bookkeeper. Jimmie did not mind working hard but journalism was her passion.

Community involvement and the church were right up there in her priorities. She was President and a Charter member of the Hughes Springs Coordinating Council, a member of the Business and Professional Women, the Modern Study Club, Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served twelve years on several committees for the Wildflower Trails.

Jimmie received many awards and honors. Some of these were Cass County 4-H, honorary chapter farmer degree from Future Farmers of America, TX Nursing Home Association, and Avinger Lions Club.She was a Sunday School teacher for some twenty years at First Baptist Church. As a member of Hughes Spring Missionary Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School teacher and active in the Senior and Women's ministries.

Jimmie loved music, dancing, storytelling, was an avid reader, wrote poetry and short stories,and was an animated reader to her grandchildren. She loved to travel, loved life and people. Every day she considered a new adventure.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jim and Etta Adams; a brother Bernice Adams; two sisters, Louise Enos and Dorothy Nelson; and husbands, J.P.Nelson, Ralph Foster, and G. H. Goolsby.

Survivors are a son Brad Nelson and wife, Patsy; two daughters, Rita Chamblee and husband Phil, and Sallee Pearce and husband Wayne; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 5 great great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Reeder-Davis Chapel with Jay Pollan officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Springs Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening at the funeral home.
