Ted Stanley Borden passed away Monday, January 7, 2019, in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 90.   He was born May 15, 1928 in Brainerd, Minnesota, to Guy and Ona Stanley Borden. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019, Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, 1213 Hanes Blvd., Hughes Springs, Texas. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Harris Chapel United Methodist Church, 3405 FM 161 South, Hughes Springs, Texas. Burial will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

Ted is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rosemary Welch Borden, Tyler, Texas, formerly of Avinger, Texas; son, Frank S. Borden and wife, Diane of Caney City ; daughter, Susan Gayle Borden Smith and husband, David Smith; grandson, Dustin R. Borden and wife, Brittany, of Gruver, Texas; granddaughter, Whitney Borden Magouyrk and husband, Ben,  of Newcastle, Oklahoma; grandson, Clinton G. Borden of Houston, Texas; great-grandsons, Eastin and Briggs Borden and Gage Magouyrk.

Ted enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 18, serving until his honorable discharge in 1949.  He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Arts from North Texas State College in 1956.  During this time, he worked the night shift at Bell Helicopter.  Following completion of his degree, he taught industrial arts and vocational education in the Port Neches and Fort Worth, Texas independent school districts.  During his 30 years in the teaching field, he received a Master of Education degree from East Texas State University at Commerce in 1974. In retirement, Ted enjoyed growing a garden each year, producing bumper crops of purple hull peas, corn and tomatoes. Summers were spent traveling and having fun with the grandkids.

  2. Ted was my cousin and a fine and decent man. I always enjoyed his visits here. My sincere condolences to his widow, children and grandchildren. Too bad God didn’t make a lot more like him, the world would be a far better place.
