carol leftwich
Carol Hamilton Leftwich, 87, of Hughes Springs, TX, went home to our Lord on August 5, 2019, passing away peacefully surrounded by his family.

Mr. Leftwich was born on January 13, 1932, to Riley and Delia Leftwich. He married the love of his life, Marijo "Jody" (Anderson) Leftwich, in 1950, and had three children. Mr. Leftwich was a 1950 graduate of Hughes Springs High School, worked many jobs in construction, refereed high school sports, and had a career at Lone Star Steel, retiring in 1985 as the Superintendent of Inspection. He loved his hometown and surrounding community, was elected as Mayor of Hughes Springs for 5 years and then as Justice of the Peace - precinct 2 of Cass County for 20 years, earning him the title and beloved nickname of "Judge Leftwich". He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs, served on the board for Northeast Texas Municipal Water District, and was a member of community service organizations, Masonic Lodge and Lions Club.

Mr. Leftwich is survived by his three children: Duane and wife Cindy of Hughes Springs, Vicki Fowler and husband Bobby of Hughes Springs, and Carolyn Frost and husband Bimbo of Atlanta; his brother, Jerry Bob and wife Pat of Diana; ten grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Leftwich was reunited in Heaven with his bride of 62 years; his parents; his brothers, Hunter and James Arthur; his sisters, Doris Rhen, and Patsy Ann Blankenship; and many other greatly missed relatives and dear friends.

The Leftwich family would like to graciously thank Cookie Linwood, Kelly Powell, and Loretta Roach, for their wonderful caregiving and love shown towards their father. We sincerely thank our pastors and clergy for their steadfast prayers and visits. He enjoyed all the cheerful visits from relatives and friends; reminiscing old times always brought him joy and brightened his day. He thoroughly appreciated the weekly treats and would reluctantly share his favorite goodies with others. Our Papa instilled in us to live a life of Christian faith, integrity, and love for the fellow man. Our hearts are happy and at peace knowing he is now in the arms of Jesus.
