Sue Ann “Suzie” Evans was born June 9, 1940, in Texarkana, Texas, to Joseph James and Anna Francis Hudgins Ward.

After several moves with her family to Pensacola, Boulder and Childress, Suzie graduated high school in Tyler, Texas.  She was an Apache Belle at Tyler Junior College.  She married Charles Evans in August of 1961 after a brief courtship.  Soon after, they moved to Linden so that Charles could join his father in business at Cass County Treating Company.

Suzie was instrumental in the creation of the Auxiliary volunteers at Linden Memorial Hospital and remained active for a long time.  She was the first woman elected to the Linden-Kildare CISD School Board and served as President for many years.  She continued to be involved with the school district, employed as the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent until the age of retirement.  Even after retirement, she was a volunteer weekly to fill backpacks for students for weekends and school holidays.  She was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren’s activities.  She was active in the Linden Garden Club for many years and enjoyed playing Bridge and traveling.  Also, she loved bream fishing with her husband, and Barbara Kay and Charles Robert Allen on Caddo Lake from Flo’s Camp.  Most recently, she took pleasure in meeting “The Ladies” for afternoon fellowship at Subway.  They will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Suzie was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles, her parents, and her sister Emma Lou McKay.  She is survived by her son Chuck Evans and Dawn Hoskins, and daughters Kelly Joslin and James, and Tracy Borders and Jason.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Daisy, Ivy, Lily, Sage and Quince Borders, James “J” Joslin, and Ashley Leeper and Kolby.  She is also survived by a special cousin Helen Moulton, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Suzie’s family would like to thank Ouida Walker and Marsha Copeland for the compassion and care shown to her and us in the last several days.

Services will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2020 at the Linden United Methodist Church with Pastor Drew Webber and Pastor Kelly Krones officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorials to Hospice of Texarkana, as the family will be forever grateful for the care they provided our mother.

  5. Suzie was a force to be reckoned with! She could walk into a room and command attention. She had a presence! She was the best school board member and president LK ever had. She made sweeping changes and made her mark on LK. We admired her and we loved her. She will be missed.
