Harold Royal

July 22, 1943 ~ March 1, 2021
William Harold Royal was born on July 22, 1943 in Hughes Springs, Texas. Harold is the third child of eleven children born to Reed and Eula V (Turner) Royal. He grew up in Hughes Springs and attended Traylor High School.
Harold joined Love Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and he was taught about the love of Jesus at his mother’s knee along with his brothers and sisters, through her loving examples. Harold was beloved of his family and he had a heart as huge as the State of Texas. His heart warming smile and sense of humor was very inviting to all he encountered. He was an entrepreneur at an early age. In his teen years, he and his brothers had many jobs; he even worked for Hughes Springs Garbage Service doing his part to keep Hughes Springs beautiful. This foundational principle of hard work is one that he developed early and it inspired him to enter the trucking business. With his zest for life; he traveled, laughed deeply and he could be heard and seen riding his chopper. His larger than life personality even afforded him a feature in the pages of the National Geographic Magazine.
The day that Harold and Linda Royal met must have been an amazing moment in time and I’m sure they would say that time stood still just for them. Their love was one that stood the test of time; it was definitely one that paints a romantic portrait of true love. They were inseparable. This poem by Pablo Neruda best describes their love. “I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.” On January 2nd Linda fell asleep and 2 months later her loving husband, Harold’s eyes closed.
Although our family is saddened by our loss, if we could speak to them today, we would say, “We have so many precious memories to last our whole life through, each one of them reminds us of how much we are missing you.”
Harold is preceded in death by his wife; Linda, his parents; Reed and Eula V, and four brothers; Jerry, Bobby, Robert and Lonnie and two sisters; Thelma and Irma Dean.
Harold and Linda leaves to cherish their memories: two sisters; Vernell of Houston and Eula of Hughes Springs; three brothers; John L. of Longview, Donnie (Gloria) of Sacramento, California and Gerry of Houston; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Harold and Linda will truly be missed by all.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2021 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Love Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.
Full obituary will follow.
Masks will be required.
Uncle Hal and Aunt Linda,
My heart is so heavy in having to say goodbye for now but it rejoices in knowing that I had the honor of being your niece and feeling your love. You loved us so dearly. I will never forget how honored I was to have you travel to California for my "Royal Wedding", I truly felt like a princess. Aunt Linda gave me my something"old" which was very dear, her wedding garter. I appreciate the example of love that you both have shared, it is definitely a legacy to be continued in our lives. As hard as it is to say, I will say goodbye for now and thank you for being you.
Your Niecey,
Gesunda
