Alvis went to his eternal home with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, after a year and a half battle with lung cancer. He took care of himself, until the last three weeks of his life.

His parents were George William and Zelma Ruth Hampton. He was the nineth child born to this family. Dr. HLD Jenkins delivered him at home in the Cross Roads community. After delivering Alvis, Dr. Jenkins said, “there is another baby in there.” Thus, he had a twin brother, Auvis number ten.

In the early 50’s he was baptized by the Holy Spirit at the Cornett Methodist Church. He lived his life as a giving person to the most unlikely people. He truly loved his family and friends. He had many life long friends.

He graduated from Hughes Springs High School in 1960. After graduation he worked in Dallas, Texas area until 1963. In November of 1963 he drafted into the United States Army. He served two years, most of his time was spent in Korea. He had a long career at Friedman Steel in Lone Star, Texas, from which he retired.

He liked to ride horses and go on trail rides in his earlier years.  Alvis was a good worker and worked for various people after retirement. He was known for cooking brisket and making fruit jellies.

Alvis is survived by his son, Justin Hampton and wife Karissa; granddaughters:  Kaelin, Charlie, and Kolbie Hampton of Longview, Texas.   Alvis loved all of his granddaughters very much, and they absolutely adored him as well.  They called him Papa Hampton.

He is also survived by his sisters: Ima Jean Davis of Marshall, La Vern Vaughan of Cross Roads; brother, Auvis Wayne Hampton of Omaha; sister-in-law, Cynthia Hampton of Daingerfield; a host of nephews, nieces, and other family members and friends.
