Betty Wimberly

August 1, 1932 ~ April 21, 2022
Betty Jo Wimberly knew her citizenship was in heaven, and on April 21st in the year of our Lord 2022, she went home. She was born and lived in the bucolic town of Hughes Springs, Texas, for most of her lovely 89 years. She lived knowing eternal life is real and that all people have value and their needs matter. She encouraged people to understand that the pain of this life would pass and that there is a place where the pain is no more. Love and kindness were her calling cards. Gratitude for her life can be celebrated on Thursday, April 28th, 6-8 pm, at the Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Graveside service on Friday, April 29th at 10 am at the Hughes Springs Cemetery. All are welcome to the two events.
Betty was always committed to family, excellence, serving, and beauty, which shown brightly throughout her daily life. She was the Valedictorian of Hughes Springs High School and attended East Texas State University with studies in Home Economics. Throughout her life, she exercised her extraordinary skills, serving others with incredible baking and cooking, exceptional skills as a couture seamstress, and wonderfully hosting beautiful showers with her friends for all the young ladies in the community as they celebrated milestones in life. She helped run Wimberly Electric in Hughes Springs with her husband for decades. She was a committed student of the word of God through Bible Study Fellowship and as a Sunday School teacher at the First United Methodist Church of Hughes Springs. The family has designated this church at 301 Taylor Street #818, Hughes Springs, Texas 75656, as a place to share memorial gifts if desired. Waiting for her in her forever home is her devoted husband, Doc Wimberly, and their twins lost at birth; her parents, Johnny Echols, Minnie Edwards Echols, and Mary Echols; her brother George Summerlin of Palestine, Texas and her sister Mincie Slomanski of Dallas, Texas. And, of course, her Aunt Artie Edwards of Irving, Texas, and countless other friends and family.
Today her beloved children and their spouses are loving and missing her: Pat and Laura Wimberly of Bedford, Texas; Chris and Terry Wimberly of Hughes Springs and Melanie Wimberly Silva of Cozumel, Mexico (preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth). Betty (or BJ) cherished her grandchildren and their spouses: Marshall Wimberly of Dallas, Texas. Jeff Wellborn, Chris, and Molly Wellborn, Krystyl and Clark Turner, and Trey Wimberly, all from Hughes Springs. 6 great-grandchildren: Mason Wellborn, Paige Wellborn, Harrison Wellborn, Clark Turner, Coleman Turner, and Caleb Turner are also of Hughes Springs. She loved her nieces and nephews: Debbie Summerlin and Becky Hanne, from Houston, Texas. Rob Summerlin of Dallas, Texas. Mary Edwards Zucchino of Raleigh, North Carolina; Susan Slomanski Flippen of College Station, Texas; Karen Malone of New Hope, Pennsylvania and Sandra Reimold of The Woodlands, Texas. A heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at Azle Manor nursing home.
To know her was to know grace and beauty and witness this being poured out for others.
