Aleeda Jean Hatcher was born August 31, 1930 in Borger, Texas to Robert Milam Hatcher and Lara Mae Norris Hatcher. Jean was raised by her great-aunt, Rosa Baldwin. Jean and Bartus Henry Johnson were married May 24, 1947 by Bro. J.W. Reeder in his home in Hughes Springs, Texas. Born to this union were three children, Michael, Melinda, and Gail. Jean attended Daingerfield High School, Southwestern Business School, and Texarkana College. She was a member of South Union Baptist Church.  She was employed by the Roswell, New Mexico Police Department and later retired from Red River Army Depot with 21 years and two month of civil service. She was a long time member of South Union Baptist Church

Jean passed away on May 14, 2017, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, and was finally reunited with Bartus, her loving husband of 65 years.

She is survived by one son, Michael Johnson and wife, Dana of Lampasas, Texas; two daughters, Melinda Kirby and husband, Gary of Canton, Gail Johnson of Dallas; five granddaughters and one grandson, Keri, Mindy, Kacie, and Molly Kirby, Courtney and Justin Clay; six great-grandchildren; one "grand-friend", Amber Robinson; brother, Robert C. Hatcher; sister, Sandra Van Buren; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. 

Services for Aleeda Jean Johnson, 86, will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation Wednesday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and lasting until service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you perform an act of kindness in memory of Jean and Bartus, who so loved to help others.

  1. To Gail and Family, I was truly sorry to read of Jean’s passing. I will never forget the wonderful times that she, Anita Raney, and I had as a team in the Personnel Office at RRAD. Jean was one of a kind – friendly, thoughtful and eager to be of assistance. Anita joins me in extending our deepest sympathy to you and we will always cherish our friendship.
