Services for Alice K. Shaddix, 92, of Hughes Springs, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Flat Creek Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 Saturday evening at the church.

Our Mama, Alice Katherine Jeardoe Shaddix, went to be with her Heavenly Father and Savior on September 20, 2017. She was born May 16, 1925 to Albert & Laura Jeardoe, in Norway, Republic County, Kansas. Mama had four siblings: Hazel Rodgers, Edward Jeardoe, Edith Moxham and Dorothy Novak.

She was raised on a farm where her Parents had wheat, cotton, milo, pigs and chickens. She would go to Church with her neighbors in a wagon, which is when she accepted The Lord as her personal Savior at a young age. She attended a one room school where she graduated and went on to attend Business School in Salina and work at Woolworths. At this time is when she met our Daddy, John Alton Shaddix, who was on leave from the Army. They were married in Salina, Kansas, but Daddy got her back to Texas as soon as he could.

Daddy and Mama raised six of us kids:  James Shaddix, David (Sue) Shaddix, Linda (Bobby) McDaniel, Carol (Lee Roy) Bickham, Annette (Tommy) Burson, Mary (Larry) Trevino. Then we added the next generation of 18 Grandchildren: Angela (John) Brotherton, Roger Fincher, Melissa Shaddix, John Shaddix, Cass (Katy) Shaddix, Casey (Heather) Shaddix, Tim (Phyllis) McDaniel, Jennifer (Jason) Bean, Ginger Gose, Katie (Josh) Roberts, Kristie (Mark) Turner, Kirk (Janell) Bickham, Kerry (Nikkie) Bickham, Mikie (Jenny) Burson, TJ (Mendy) Burson, Jaimie Burson, John-Daniel Trevino, Alex (Aaron) McDonald. Then they mixed in 41 Great-Grandchildren: Morgan, Chance, Walker, Johnathan, Shelby, Timothy, Haley, Kai, Talon, Zayne, Brittany, Scotty, Megan, Joshua, Sean, Alora, Brandon, Brie, Cory, Katee, Alicen, Jessica, Karagan, Lyddia, Noah, Chloe, Caleb, Leona, Jackson, Meghan, Dylan, Ashley, Adam, Paula, Presley, Brantley, Call, Reno, Claire, Catherine, Corrie. And don’t forget the 13 Great-Great Grandchildren: Jenner, Jenery, Amber, Noah, Ayden, Greyson, Marche, Seth, Cole, Jonathon, Jaclynn, Salem, Elijah. And her fur baby of 13 + years Tick-Tock (which by the way Mama stated when the dog showed up at her house “That dog is not staying”.)

If one word could define the legacy of our Mama, we would say it is her faith in The Lord. She has been the strongest example of a Christian for not only our family, but anyone who knew her. She prayed diligently over her family. She prayed for us all to be protected and to come to know The Lord as our personal Savior and live for Him. She studied God’s Word and practiced it daily. She dearly loved her Church, Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist, where she was a member for over 60 years. Mama didn’t “send” us to Church, we “went with” her to Church. Over the years she served in Sunday School, BTC, VBS, Ladies Auxiliary, WOW and loved her Ladies Sunday School class dearly. She also loved her quilting ladies. She quilted in the building where Daddy attended school.

Mama has now been reunited with Daddy, her Parents, her Brother Edward, Sisters Hazel & Dorothy, Son-in-law Bobby, Granddaughter Melissa, Great Grandchildren Joshua & Timothy and a host of other relatives and friends. What a glad reunion she is experiencing.

Together with her Sister Edith; Kansas Family: Elaine (Paul), Dale (Mary), Louise Ray (Vicky), Teresa (Jim); Sisters-in-law: Bobbi Jo, Mary Joyce (Billy), Murlene, Eula, Easy; many Nieces & Nephews; her very special family of Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church; many friends; and last but certainly not least, her treasured friends and adopted family: Bro. Larry & Dorothy Neeley, Randy, Harold & Sue, we will cherish the many happy memories of Mama.

We thank you for loving our Mama and for touching her life. She didn’t have “yours, mine and ours”…..she just had mine, and we all were fully blessed by being hers.

We would especially like to thank her former Nurse, Deidra Robinson, and the angels of Heart to Heart: Kacey Downing, Mary Hurndon, Bro. Peck and Tyler Trimble. Thank you for your special care of Mama and the love you showed toward her and us. Certainly God has special blessings for servants like you.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to her love of quilting at the Quilting Club (PO Box 816, Hughes Springs, TX, 75656).
